Extra Care Sheltered Housing

Lindsay Court and Westdene are both a short bus ride from Croydon’s town centre and are the only privately run schemes providing Extra Care Sheltered Housing in the borough.

In August 2008 Fellows Court in Morland Road, Addiscombe opened providing an additional 40 Extra Care Flats in the borough plus an essential Day Activities Centre. Unlike Lindsay Court and Westdene all vacancies at Fellows Court will be filled from Croydon Council’s waiting list and the tenants receive care and support from Croydon Council staff.

These schemes although having the same facilities as the flexible care sheltered schemes have a larger staff team consisting of a Scheme Manager, Supervisor, Home Help / Carers, catering, laundry and domestic staff and on-call staff providing 24-hour cover.

Providing these services from directly employed in-house staff is quite different from other special sheltered schemes which buy in services from agencies or Social Services.

Although providing a midday meal 7 days a week these schemes also have an in-house shop which sells a variety of goods enabling tenants to independently buy in produce for their breakfast and evening meals.
