Sheltered

There is still a need for the traditional sheltered scheme with staff providing good neighbour services and assistance in emergencies and the Association’s sheltered schemes provide just that.

Claremont Court in South Norwood, in addition to its 11 one-bedroom flats and 1 two-bedroom flat, has 3 two-bedroom bungalows designed for wheelchair users. This scheme is close to the main South Norwood shopping area.

Garden Court in Park Hill Rise with its 24 flats and 9 bungalows, all one-bedroom, has a sheltered walled garden and is close to Croydon town centre.

All flats are fitted with a voice contact alarm system which is connected to the on-site staff or a central control service ensuring the scheme receives 24 hour emergency cover.

These schemes contain friendly communal facilities including well-furnished lounges, gardens and patios with seating. There is a communal kitchen attached to the lounges to compliment social events.

Regular social activities take place including coffee mornings, bingo sessions, video evenings and occasionally visiting entertainers or trips to the coast or theatre.

Local businesses also visit bringing various services to the schemes including a hairdresser, chiropodist, mobile library plus milk and newspaper deliveries. In some schemes, the local greengrocer visits those unable to get out to the shops.

There are guest room facilities at both Claremont Court and Garden Court offered to visiting relatives and friends at a small charge.

Claremont Court Tenants also have the opportunity of using the facilities in the Association’s neighbouring scheme, Bardsley Court, which includes a small in-house shop.

Laundry rooms with washing machines and tumble dryers are provided, as these are not permitted within the flats, however a cooker and fridge are supplied to each flat.

Marten House owned by Croydon Unitarian Housing Association Ltd and managed by Eldon provides this unique accommodation for single independent elderly persons in need of some support. It is situated in South Croydon close to bus stops for Central Croydon and Selsdon.
